Biography
Karla Tievsky, a professional violinist, is an active member of the Atlanta
musical community, performing solo and in duos, trios and quartets. Ms. Tievsky plays first
violin in the Georgia Philharmonic and operates her own private Suzuki Studio and Musikgarten
classes in Virginia- Highlands. Karla graduated from Washington University in St. Louis earning
a B.A. in psychology and receiving certification in Elementary Education with a specialty in
Pre-School Primary Education. In addition, she received certification in Special Education.
Karla received Suzuki training at Ithaca Suzuki Institute, Ithaca College, New York; Stevens
Point Suzuki Institute, Stevens Point Wisconsin; Atlanta Suzuki Institute, Atlanta Georgia,
and South Carolina Suzuki Institute, and regularly receives continuing education at various
summer Suzuki Institutes. In addition, Karla has received training in teaching Musikgarten- a
music program for babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers and their parents.
Karla has studied under Max Rabinowitz, Ed Kreitman, Tom Wermuth and Sonja Foster. Karla has
served on the boards of Suzuki Association of Georgia, Georgia Philharmonic, The Epstein School
and Ahavath Achim Synagogue, and is past president of Georgia Philharmonic.
Karla is a member of Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA), Suzuki Association of Georgia,
American String Teachers Association, (ASTA), Suzuki Association of Georgia (SAGA), National
Federation of Musicians, and is past President of the Suzuki Association of Georgia.
